Harbor House

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and for the first time, Harbor House of Central Florida is partnering with Orange County Animal Services to illustrate the link between Domestic Violence and Animal Abuse.

Participating veterinarians will be tying a purple ribbon on each pet's collar after every check-up. With their partnership, and yours, we can further our efforts to help our community understand the direct relationship between domestic violence and animal abuse.

Studies have shown that 85% of domestic violence victims, nationwide, report incidents of animal abuse prior to leaving their batterer. In Central Florida, 48% of domestic violence survivors delay leaving an abusive home because they do not have a safe place for their pets. Throughout the month of October, scheduled events will educate, raise awareness, allow you to donate and Harbor Houseget involved in the fight against domestic violence and animal abuse. We want to ensure that No one gets left behind. Some of our events include:

October 1st - Mayor Richard T. Crotty Proclamation
October 9th - The 3nd Annual Domestic Violence Luncheon
October 21st - Walk A Mile
